What is an Otoplasty?
An otoplasty, often referred to as ear surgery, is a facial surgery procedure that addresses the shape and size of the ears. The ears are largely responsible for your overall facial balance, and many patients find that they are able to enhance their overall appearance by addressing the ears via otoplasty. Patients who feel that their ears are too large or stick out too far from the head can correct the appearance of the ears with an otoplasty to increase their confidence and improve their appearance. Additionally, otoplasty techniques can be used for ear reconstruction to restore ears that have been altered due to injury, birth defects, or other factors.

How Much Does an Otoplasty Cost?
At Gallaher Plastic Surgery & Spa MD, we take a personalized approach to every otoplasty procedure. This means that the cost of your treatment will depend on variables such as your personal preferences and unique cosmetic goals. As a result, we cannot provide you with the exact cost of treatment until you visit us in-office for a consultation. If you are concerned about the cost of your treatment, we are proud to offer plastic surgery financing to help make our treatments more affordable. In addition, we offer CosmetAssure insurance with every cosmetic surgery, so you can go into your treatment with confidence and peace of mind.
How is an Otoplasty Performed?
For the otoplasty procedure, we will use general anesthesia to ensure your safety and comfort during the surgery. To begin treatment, we will make incisions in the natural folds of the ears. Here, any scarring will be well-hidden. Through these incisions, we will manipulate the cartilage in the ears to produce the desired results. By removing or reshaping cartilage, we can freely adjust the shape, size, and position of the ears. After the desired results are achieved, we will close the incisions, completing the surgery.
What is the Recovery Like After an Otoplasty?
After an otoplasty, you can expect some bruising and swelling around the ears. You may have to take a few days off of work and other activities in order to heal and allow these effects to subside. You will have to avoid strenuous activities, such as exercise, for at least a month after treatment in order to ensure a smooth recovery. We also recommend that patients avoid sports and other activities that could cause trauma to the ears during the recovery period. In order to protect the ears during recovery, we will provide you with a headband that should be worn immediately following treatment and while sleeping.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from an Otoplasty?
The results from your otoplasty will become visible as swelling and bruising fades. It can take a few months for the final results to set in, but you should be able to notice your results fairly quickly. The results from otoplasty are permanent, and no further treatment should be needed.
