What is a Blepharoplasty?
A blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a facial surgery procedure that addresses sagging skin and excess fat in the eyelids. When the eyes begin to age, they can alter the entire look of the face. Drooping eyelids can cause a tired or aged appearance, and may even interfere with your vision. A blepharoplasty eliminates excess skin and fat to rejuvenate the eyes and produce a youthful, refreshed appearance. Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Upper eyelid surgery is ideal for correcting sagging eyelids and restoring your field of vision, while lower eyelid surgery is ideal for addressing bags under the eyes.

How Much Does a Blepharoplasty Cost?
At Gallaher Plastic Surgery & Spa MD, we take a personalized approach to every blepharoplasty procedure. This means that the cost of your treatment will depend on variables such as your personal preferences and unique cosmetic goals. As a result, we cannot provide you with the exact cost of treatment until you visit our office for a consultation. If you are concerned about the cost of your treatment, we are proud to offer plastic surgery financing to help make our treatments more affordable. In addition, we offer CosmetAssure insurance with every cosmetic surgery, so you can go into your treatment with confidence and peace of mind.
How is a Blepharoplasty Performed?
For the blepharoplasty procedure, we will use general anesthesia to ensure your safety and comfort during the surgery. To begin treatment, we will make incisions in the natural folds of the eyelids. This produces minimal scarring, as the incisions blend into the creases of the eyelids. Through these incisions, we will remove excess skin and reposition or remove fat to produce the desired results. Then we will close the incisions, completing the surgery.
What is the Recovery Like After a Blepharoplasty?
After a blepharoplasty, you can expect some bruising and swelling around the eyes. You may also experience blurred vision, which is common for the first few days after treatment. You may have to take about a week off of work and other activities in order to heal and allow these effects to subside. You will have to avoid strenuous activities, such as exercise, for at least a few weeks after treatment in order to ensure a smooth recovery.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from a Blepharoplasty?
The results from your blepharoplasty will become visible as swelling and bruising fades, which typically takes about two weeks. Once your results are visible, you can expect them to be permanent. However, blepharoplasty cannot stop the aging process, so you will still notice gradual changes in the eyes over the years due to natural aging.
