Neurotoxins like Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau are not only used to correct wrinkles, but are also used to prevent them before they start. The old theory was to wait until we are in our 40s to start getting Botox. By the time we’re in our 40s, the wrinkles have already settled in and become pronounced. Waiting until the lines are deep to start correcting them makes it harder to smooth them out and decrease their appearance.
I try to educate my patients that starting Botox treatments earlier will prevent the lines from settling in and creating the stubborn static lines. We are starting to see more patients in their 20s now in our office for small amounts of Botox as a preventative treatment. It is recommended for these patients to be treated 2-3 times a year. The key is to relax the muscles enough so they can’t move to create the lines to begin with.
