What Is the Recovery Time for a Breast Augmentation?

You’ve done it – you’ve made the decision to undergo a breast augmentation procedure. You’re tired of feeling less than confident about the size and shape of your breasts.  Or maybe you’ve recently had children, and you’re ready to get your old breasts back.  Whatever your reason might be, you’re ready to achieve your dream breasts…
And you’re ready to get the procedure done at Gallaher Plastic Surgery & Spa MD. But what will it be like when you leave the operating room?

Consider the Recovery Time

Before you undergo the procedure, you might have a few questions.  At Gallaher Plastic Surgery & Spa MD, one of the most popular questions is how long it takes to recover from a breast augmentation procedure.

Every woman is different; however, most patients can expect to undergo a recovery that lasts for about six weeks.  During the first few days of your recovery, you’re going to be uncomfortable, so you may need pain medication.  Many patients need to sleep in recliners for the first week of surgery.  On this note, make sure your home is prepared for your recovery.  Get your partner or a friend to help, or make a batch of meals, get your Netflix ready, and ensure you’re set up to get as much sleep as possible.

It’s recommended that you avoid strenuous activity for the first 4-6 weeks after your procedure. Your plastic surgeon may sign off on light activity after a week of recovery, depending on your progress. You should also expect to wear a basic and breathable sports bra during a large part of your recovery, as this can help reduce swelling while ensuring your implants settle into place.
